I sustained my spinal cord injury in 2022 and was in the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre for my treatment and rehabilitation. When we started to discuss my discharge, I was rather worried as I knew my home wasn’t suitable for me to return to and would be unsuitable to be adapted. Therefore, I had to sell it.

Whilst in the hospital I met Roy, an Independent Living Advisor for Aspire. He told me about the accessible and adapted properties that Aspire has and that there was one available in Exeter. I went down to visit the property and immediately knew it was the right place for me. It’s in a nice area, with lovely architecture, buildings close by and its close to the city centre too.

Inside the property it feels very cosy and homely and, along with the adaptions, I really love living there and it exceeded all my expectations as to what accessible living would look like. I would happily live in somewhere like this on a long-term basis.

I use a powerchair, so having a wide hallway and doors means getting around is no problem inside the flat. And having low worktops in the kitchen and the adapted wetroom means I can be very independent whilst I learn to live with my spinal cord injury.

I can’t thank Aspire enough, I love living here and being in this property has given me the time to restart my life, in a homely, safe and lovely environment.
