Free Online Guide Workshop

Aspire announces free online workshops ahead of the release of new industry guidance tomorrow (31 March).

The EmployAbility Leisure Guides have been produced to support training providers and leisure operators to attract and support more disabled people to train and work in the leisure sector.

The free online workshop, delivered by Sport Structures, will support managers to review and embed the guidance in their own organisations. The aim of the session is to give individuals working within the sector the confidence and skills to create an inclusive approach within their workplace to give disabled people access to training and employment within the sector.

Working within the leisure sector often involves working with a diverse range of people. Currently, disabled people are under-represented across all aspects of the leisure industry, and there are clear indications that disabled people are vastly under-represented in the fitness and leisure workforce. Disabled people represent a talent pool of potential staff, who can bring a unique perspective to the workforce, which can benefit customers, staff and the organisation.

Aspire hopes that training providers and leisure operators will sign up for the workshop when they download the Guide.

Hilary Farmiloe, EmployAbility Leisure Strategic Lead said,

"We want to see people who are in a position to influence change within their organisation signing up to the workshop. This might be CEO's and managers overseeing strategy, sales and marketing, human resources, tutor support etc. because embedding inclusive policies and practices has to be led from the top and filtered down throughout an organisation."

The two hour workshop will tackle various topics addressed within the Guides such as how to attract disabled people to courses or jobs, recruitment processes and how to support disabled people once they are in training or work. Creating an inclusive organisational culture is also a theme that will underpin the guidance which will likely benefit all staff.
