What happens if my application is declined?

If your application is declined you will receive an email informing you of the decision.

What happens if my application is approved?

If your application is approved you will be invited to the selection day and asked to complete two online tasks. You will receive an email with this information.

What happens at selection day?

This day allows us to meet in person and gives you opportunities to ask questions and tell us a little more about yourself. Offers for a place on the programme are made on the day, with enrolment usually following in the afternoon, occasionally enrolment might take place on a subsequent day.

What do I need to know before applying?

  1. Check the course details: Make sure you have checked the details and dates of the course you are applying for on the website www.instructability.org.uk.
  2. What makes a successful application: Shortlisting is based on meeting the basic eligibility criteria (as stated on the website) and how well the application demonstrates the candidates ability to meet the aims of the programme. Answer questions as fully as possible.
  3. Prepare some information before going online: You are unable to save your application. We suggest you view the questions once you log on and prepare longer answers which you can copy and paste into the online application form. At the start you will also be asked to upload a video clip from a file on your phone or PC. Please prepare this with the file saved on phone or PC before you start the application.
  4. Instructions for the video:Please make a short video (1-3 minutes) of yourself answering the following questions:
    1. What do you enjoy about exercise and how have you benefitted?
    2. Tell us about your impairment or condition
    3. Have you faced any barriers when going to the gym, either physical or psychological? What kind of things do you think might stop some disabled people using leisure facilities?
    4. How will you get disabled people to come to the leisure facility when you are on placement?
    5. Are there any organisations that could help you reach these people?
    6. What 3 words best describe you?
  5. What if I don't want to do a video? This is not compulsory but we would appreciate it if you are willing to give it a go!  Please note: 
    1. Some people are better at talking than writing things down, and this video can help you show us your personality. Please do not worry about the quality of filming we are most interested in what you have to say and your ability to inspire us.
    2. Videos are only shared with project selection staff and we appreciate that some people find it difficult to talk to camera but please try to relax, have fun and give it your best shot. If you have speech difficulties you may upload a subtitled, signed or translated video.
