We are looking for people who can use their own experience of overcoming barriers to exercise and improving physical function and/or mental health, to inspire and support other disabled people to participate in fitness activity.

We welcome applications from people with a range of impairments but please note that Gym Instructor candidates need to be able to work at level 2 standard (equivalent to GCSE) due to the theory components in anatomy and physiology which are an examined part of the course.

InstructAbility graduates come from a vast range of backgrounds including people who face barriers in entering the fitness industry, people who have lost a previous job due to an impairment, individuals who have acquired an injury through sport, those who are involved in disability sport,  as well as injured armed service personnel transitioning from the armed forces.

Visual impairment:  We welcome people with sight loss onto the Gym Instructor Programme. If a candidate has total sight loss they will need to provide a support worker/volunteer to assist them during the industry placement. We are unable to accept people with significant sight loss on the Swimming Programme.

Hearing impairment:  The course is open to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, however anyone who requires a BSL interpreter will need to secure the funding and interpreter for the training and placement.
