A face to face training programme delivered approximately 3 days per week usually between 10:30am - 4:30pm each day, comprising both practical and classroom based theory work. The course is designed to give participants the skills, knowledge and confidence to begin their leisure industry career and includes learning resources and all the guidance and support needed to pass the course. Once qualified, instructors will undertake a twelve week (3 days/week) voluntary industry work placement. The placement is organised though the Local Project Lead. Volunteer instructors will undertake community outreach to engage other disabled people in leisure activities. Each instructor has a target of getting at least 10 other disabled people physically active.

Stage 3 NEXT STEPS - What can the programme lead to?

  • Full-time, part-time or casual work as an instructor within a leisure facility.
  • Gym instructors can undertake more training to become a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, GP Referral Specialist.
  • Swimming Assistants can progress to Swimming Teachers, Coaches, Lifeguards or Aqua Class Instructors.
